KSCL is run by a volunteer Board of Directors. Our Board of Directors is comprised of parents, family members, community professionals, and a self advocate. |

| | | John Pinckney | | Vice-President | | As a child, there were 3 children who lived within 2 blocks of my home. One boy suffered from Down Syndrome, another from Hydro Cephallic Syndrome, and the third boy was deaf. These kids had a tough time fitting in during the 1940's adn early 1950's.
Fortunately I had very progressive parents who told me that they needed a friend; that they were just as worthy as anyone else and they deserved a good shot at life.
I had served on the board for the Kootenay Society for Community Living for 6 years and was just approached to serve another term! | | test email |
| | | | John Eaton | | Director | | My wife and I have four married children and twelve grandchildren, eight living in BC and four in North Carolina. I was asked to get involved with KSCL because of my Engineering background and agreed to serve because I was recently retired from Celgar Pulp Co. and thought I would have some spare time on my hands (little did I know!) I continue my involvement with KSCL because I believe it is doing good work in the community, and with highly qualified management, it doesn't require an excess amount of my time. |
| | | | | John Lebidoff | | President | | I first became involved in KSCL over 20 years ago and have served 3 six year terms in various board capacities. During the initial de-institutionalization phase in the early 80's, myself and another board member selected the Prince Street and Silverbirch residences to purchase. Residential services were commenced and were provided by KSCL. My wife and I have a son, Lorne, who lives at the Prince Street house. I have lived in the Castlegar area most of my life and I hold a CMA accounting designation. |
| | | | Mike Espenhain | | Director | | When I considered standing for a position on the KSCL Board, I had to reflect on what I knew about the Society. I found I knew surprisingly little, although I did know of some of the good things being accomplished in the community. I was originally approached to add to the Board my experience in Human Resources, which I trust is helpful. I have been on the Board four years now and have come to have the greatest respect for this Society. KSCL is so well run and does so much good for people that I find it an honour to continue participating in this endeavour. |
| | | | | Daun Bate | | Director | | I am a retired special education teacher and am proud to be a member of the KSCL Board. I am also a family member of one of our clients. My hobbies include gardening, volunteering in the community and traveling - especially to Chicago to visit my grandchildren. |
| | | | Helen Lorimer | | Secretary | | I first served on the Board of KSCL in the late 1980's and am now in my third term.
My primary reason for getting involved was that I have a daughter who is mentally challenged. In the broader context, however, I am privileged to be part of an organization that is not only inclusive and compassionate but also dynamic and forward looking. |
| | | | | Kathy Gregory | | Director | | I have always been interested in community work and in helping out others when I can. I spent a number of years doing home care for the elderly and I thoroughly enjoyed this until my sight made it impossible for me to continue. Being somewhat handicapped I am well aware of the demands this places on individuals and the support that is so important to allow them to achieve their potential. I was very pleased to be asked to serve as a director. I enjoy gardening, flower arranging, and working for the betterment of the community. |
| | | | Mac Gregory | | Director | | I am a past teacher of School District 9 and 20 and spent a number of years as a special education teacher at Kinnaird Middle School. This helped me realize the need for support of those with special needs. It takes a team effort to provide the services needed for these individuals and I welcome the opportunity to work with those at the Kootenay Society for Community Living. I enjoy gardening, fishing and taking an active part in a number of provincial and community organizations. |
| | | | | Louise Bate | | Director | | I am a self advocate and have lived in Castlegar all my life. I was one of the first people to attend the Silverbirch School and have been part of the Kootenay Society for Community Living since it started.
Currently I go to Community Options, which is a day program in Castlegar. I enjoy the time I spend with my friends. There are always a lot of interesting activities to take part in. My home is on 29th Street where I share space with three other room mates and KSCL staff.
I have been on the Board before and I look forward to participating again. |
| | | | Jennifer Cheveldave | | Treasurer | | I am a Certified General Accountant in public practice in Castlegar. I first became involved with KSCL as a board member in the late 1990's. I remained on the board for six years, during which KSCL evolved into the organization it is today. The reason I returned to serve again is that there is a tremendous amount of satisfaction associated with being a part of an organization that provided such worthwhile services in a caring, safe, and professional manner. I have first hand knowledge of this through an adult neice who has benefited from childhood to the present day from many of the programs KSCL offers. |
| | | | | Deb McIntosh | | Director | | Deb was born in Trail and is married to Chris D'Arcy. Together they have five children and three grandchildren. Deb has worked as the Manager of the Castlegar and District Heritage Society for the last 17 years. Deb is involved with the Community Harvest Food Bank, Emergency Shelter, New Vision Housing Society and has always had a passion for the Social Service Sector. |
